About Us

A Legacy of Faith and Service

Welcome to Greater Way Ministries COGIC, a vibrant, Spirit-filled church rooted in the heart of Chicago’s South Side. For over four decades, we have been a beacon of hope, faith, and love serving families, nurturing disciples, and reaching out to our neighbors with the life-changing message of Jesus Christ. Whether you are seeking a church home, spiritual growth, or a place to belong, you are welcome here.

Our doors and hearts are open to you. Join us as we worship, grow, and serve together walking the greater way God has prepared for us all.

Our vision is to be a Christ‑centered, Spirit‑led, holiness‑embracing church that transforms lives and impacts generations. We envision a ministry where worship is authentic, discipleship is intentional, families are strengthened, and the power of the Holy Spirit is evident in every gathering.

In harmony with the vision of the Church of God in Christ and in covenant fellowship with the Illinois Sixth Jurisdiction under Bishop Clowdell Williams Sr. and the H.W. Goldsberry District under Superintendent Jeffery L. Ball Jr. we strive to:

  • Evangelize the world
  • Edify believers through sound doctrine
  • Empower families
  • Engage our community with compassion
  • Equip the next generation for Kingdom leadership

Greater Way is where legacy meets innovation, where holiness meets excellence, and where every believer is encouraged to walk in their God‑ordained destiny.

Our Mission

Our Mission is to glorify God by making disciples, serving our community, and living out the love and holiness of Jesus Christ.

Greater Way Ministries exists to glorify God and advance the Kingdom of Jesus Christ through Spirit‑filled worship, biblical holiness, and compassionate community outreach. In alignment with the Church of God in Christ and under the leadership of Bishop Clowdell Williams Sr. of the Illinois Sixth Jurisdiction and Superintendent Administrative Assistant Jeffery L. Ball Jr. of the H.W. Goldsberry District, we are committed to evangelism, discipleship, and strengthening families.

We equip believers to grow in sanctification, walk in integrity, and live out their God‑given purpose with excellence and joy. Our mission flows from our legacy honoring the foundation laid by Bishop Otis and Pastor Christine Nickson while serving our community with love, unity, and spiritual maturity.

Bishop Otis Nickson (1937–2025)
A Shepherd’s Heart

Bishop Otis Nickson was a man of unwavering faith, gentle strength, and visionary leadership. Born in Jackson, MS he answered the call to ministry as a young man, dedicating his life to preaching the gospel and shepherding God’s people. In 1984, alongside his beloved wife, Christine, he founded Way Inc. with a simple yet profound vision: to see lives transformed by the power of Jesus Christ.

For over four decades, Bishop Nickson faithfully served as Senior Pastor, mentor, and spiritual father to generations. His preaching was marked by biblical depth and practical wisdom; his prayers carried the weight of heaven. He was known for his compassion for the hurting, his advocacy for justice, and his tireless service to the community. Under his leadership, the church grew in both size and spiritual impact, launching ministries that touched every age and walk of life.

Bishop Nickson’s legacy endures in the lives he touched, the leaders he raised, and the church he built—a legacy of faith, hope, and love that continues to inspire us all.
